New Database: Books in Print Online

bip_corner_logo_2007The cd-rom version of the database Books in Print was already available, but now the University Library as access to Books in Print Online.  This database describes in-print, out-of-print, and forthcoming books, audios, and videos from North American publishers and U.S. distributors and wholesalers.

To import references from this database to your RefWorks account, you still need to use the Import Filter Books in Print, but the steps you have to take are a bit different.

  1. Mark the titles
  2. Click ‘Download’
  3. Choose ‘Standard Download’
  4. Click ‘GO’
  5. Choose ‘ASCII’
  6. Select ‘Full Record’
  7. Click ‘GO’
  8. Save the file as a .BIP file
  9. In RefWorks select Import Filter/Data Source ’BooksinPrint’
  10. And select behind Database ‘BooksinPrint (ASCII Full Record)’

New database: Communication Mass Media Complete (CMMC)

The UL offers access to a new database: Communication Mass Media Complete. This database spans the breadth of communication studies, including coverage of theories, media and communication phenomena, research methods, problems, concepts and geographical areas.

Exporting titles from this database to your RefWorks-account is easy:

  1. Click the link ‘Add to folder’  under the titles you want to export
  2. When you have added all titles, click Folder at the top of the screen
  3. Select the titles (use the Select / deselect all option to select all titles at once)
  4. Click on the icon with the green arrow (that’s the export button)
  5. Mark ‘Direct Export to RefWorks’
  6. And click Save
  7. RefWorks will ask you to log in, and your titles will be imported.

New Database: Cambridge Journals Online

Cambridge Journals Online has been added to the alphabetical list of databases. These are the steps you have to take to save references from this database to your RefWorks account:

  1. Mark the titles (use the square behind the titles)
  2. Click ‘Export Citation(s)’
  3. Choose as file format RIS (don’t use the RefWorks options: your reference will be incomplete!)
  4. Click ‘Download’
  5. Save the file as a ris file
  6. Choose as Import Filter ‘RIS Format”
  7. Choose as Database ‘Cambridge Journals Online’

New Databases: BioOne and Multi-Science

The UL offers two new databases: BioOne and Multi-Science. This is how you can add references from these databases to your RefWorks-account:

BioOne

  1.  Mark the titles 
  2. Click on the top of the list of titles the link ‘Download to Citation Manager’
  3. Choose behind Format for ‘RefWorks’
  4. Click on the button ‘Download article citation data’

Multi-Science

  1. Mark the titles
  2. Click ‘Update marked list’
  3. Click ‘Bookmarking options’ and choose ‘Marked list’
  4. Click ‘Export Options’ at the right side and choose ‘Plain text’
  5. Save the file as a text file
  6. The Import Filter is: Ingenta
  7. The Database is: Online Articles

New Database: Brill Online Journals

The UL has a new database: Brill Online Journals. Where applicable, this database gives access to the complete electronic archive, going back to Volume 1, No. 1. The archive is hosted at Ingenta. To download references into your RefWorks account, you have to follow the same steps as for other Ingenta journals:

  1. Mark the titles
  2. Click ‘Update marked list’
  3. Click ‘Bookmarking options’ and choose ‘Marked list’
  4. Click ‘Export Options’ at the right side and choose ‘Plain text’
  5. Save the file as a text file
  6. Open your RefWorks-account and choose Import
  7. In RefWorks choose as Import Filter/Data Source ‘Ingenta’
  8. And as Database ‘Online Articles’
  9. Browse to the saved file and click ‘Import’

New Database: EmBase

The Medical Library has access to a new database: EmBase. This database offers pharmacological, biomedical literature and is comparable to PubMed/Medline.

If you want to add references from EmBase to your RefWorks account, you have to use the Import function in RefWorks.

  1. Mark the titles you want to save
  2. Click on ‘Export’
  3. Choose as Export Format ‘EndNote’
  4. Save the file as an .enw-file
  5. In RefWorks choose as Import Filter/Data Source ‘EndNote View’
  6. And as Database also ‘EndNote View’
  7. Browse to the saved file and click ‘Import’

New database: New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics Online

The UL has access to the New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics Online, an economic dictionary. It’s possible to export the references into your RefWorks account one by one.

  1. Click for each title under ‘Download Citation’ at ‘as RIS’
  2. Save as RIS-file
  3. Open your RefWorks account and choose ‘Import’
  4. Choose behind Import Filter (IF) ‘RIS Format’
  5. Choose behind Database (DB) ‘RIS Format’
  6. Browse to the saved RIS-file

New database: Scopus

The UL has access to a new database: Scopus. This is an abstract and citation database, specially for op beta-, gamma- and medical research. You can find this database in our alphabetical list of databases.

You can export your references easily into your RefWorks-account:

  1. Mark the references you would like to add
  2. Click ’Output’
  3. Mark ‘Export’
  4. Choose Export format ‘RefWorks direct export’
  5. Choose your output format (the default is ‘citations only’, I prefer ‘complete format’, that includes keywords)
  6. Click ‘Export’
